(MACON) Mercer University will host its annual Holiday Open House at the Woodruff House Tuesday-Thursday, Nov. 29-Dec. 1, 6-8 p.m. nightly. The Woodruff House, one of Macon's grand antebellum homes, is located at 988 Bond St., adjacent to the University's Walter F. George School of Law.   For the past decade, residents and visitors alike have made this holiday event a family tradition. Each year, the rooms throughout the Greek Revival mansion are adorned with new decorations and themes, making the annual tour an exciting event for all - even the most frequent guest. Visitors follow an illuminated path to the front door where they will be greeted by deans and alumni of Mercer University.   The Holiday Open House features a 12-foot Christmas tree trimmed with more than 500 hand-painted eggs, performances by students from Mercer University's Music Department, and holiday cookies and punch for all guests.   The holiday event is free and open to the public. MACON - Mercer University's Macon Regional Academic Center will begin its second session of spring semester on Friday, March 10. Adults interested in earning a bachelor's degree through the Center's evening and weekend programs should apply at www.mercerdegree.com.   Conveniently located within Mercer's Macon campus, the Center is designed specifically with an evening and weekend format for adult learners who want to begin or complete a bachelor's degree at one of the nation's top universities. Classes are held one evening per week or on Saturdays in eight-week sessions. Financial aid is available for students who attend half time or more.   Three of the University's 10 schools and colleges have undergraduate degree programs at the Macon location and accept students for the second session. MACON, Ga. - Friday was supposed to be a day to celebrate the end of another successful year at Mercer University. However, due to the tornadoes that ripped through middle Georgia on Sunday the Mercer Staff Council has opted to help victims by not only donating funds budgeted for their annual picnic, but also by volunteering their time Friday afternoon to help storm victims.
The Macon Area Habitat for Humanity will dedicate the 2009 Mercer University Build home on Wednesday, July 15, at noon. The home is located at 4160 Marion Ave. in Lynwood Estates is now owned by the Baldwin family. The Mercer University Build home is the result of a partnership between Mercer University and Mercer's Habitat Student Chapter. The University and the chapter contributed volunteer work as well as money to help build the home.
ATLANTA - Mercer University's Georgia Baptist College of Nursing has been awarded two grants totaling more than $430,000 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to support nursing training and increase the number of nursing faculty in the country.
