A symposium titled “Religion and Violence” will be the first event in a new series called “Intersections,” sponsored on Mercer’s Macon campus by the Office of the University Minister and Dean of Chapel and the Center for Theology and Public Life.
ATLANTA - Mercer University's Eugene W. Stetson School of Business and Economics will add to its degree offerings this fall, with a new Master of Accountancy and a combined Bachelor of Business Administration - Master of Business Administration degree on its Atlanta campus. The new degrees, which will both be evening programs, are targeted the growing group of professionals in the Atlanta area in need of career-focused programs to help them succeed.
ATLANTA - The annual Mercer Preaching Consultation Sept. 26-28 in St. Simons Island will feature Allen Walworth, president and CEO of Generis Inc., and the Rev. Dr. Julie Pennington-Russell, lead pastor at First Baptist Church, Decatur.
An estimated 1,563 students are expected to participate in graduation ceremonies on Mercer's Macon and Atlanta campuses over the next month.  The University will hold nine commencement ceremonies and hear from an array of renowned speakers.   Mercer University President R. Kirby Godsey will also present four honorary degrees. U.S. Rep. Nathan Deal will be awarded an honorary doctor of laws degree at the Walter F. George School of Law commencement May 10.   Wyche Fowler Jr., who served as a previous U.S. Representative, U.S. Senator and Ambassador to Saudia Arabia, will be presented an honorary doctor of laws degree May 11 at the Macon commencement for the College of Liberal Arts, Eugene W. MACON - A $1 million Georgia Department of Transportation grant to the City of Macon for improvements to Tattnall Square Park along College Street was announced at a news conference today by Macon Mayor Robert Reichert and State Transportation Board member Jim Cole. The funds are part of the Transportation Enhancement grant program, which supports projects that make cities more pedestrian and bike-friendly, beautify landscapes and restore historical sites.
MACON - Mercer University, for the 12th consecutive year, has made the Top 10 in U.S. News & World Report's annual ranking of comprehensive universities in the South. Mercer was again ranked No. 8 in the South in the 2010 "Best Regional Universities" category. The University also moved up to the No. 4 spot in the South for "Great Schools, Great Prices."
MACON - For the first time Mercer University will host an American Cancer Society Relay for Life event. The event, MACRelay, is organized for teams from the area's colleges and will be held April 9-10 at Porter Patch on Mercer's Macon campus. Opening ceremonies begin at 7 p.m., April 9, and the survivor reception and survivor/caregiver celebration lap will begin at 7:30 p.m. The event concludes at 7 a.m. on April 10.
MACON - Mercer fans will be in the spirit tonight as the Bears get ready for a men's basketball match-up with Lipscomb in the first round of the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships at 9 in the University Center. The festivities begin with a Mercer A-Sun Basketball Tailgate at 8 p.m. for all Mercer fans on the University Center Patio. QuadWorks is sponsoring the pre-game pep rally, which will include free pizza to all who attend (and show their Mercer ID). Included will be give-aways, music from Mercer Radio and a drawing of bookstore gift cards for students.

Mercer University programs, clubs and organizations will hold a number of events throughout February to honor Black History Month. Among the events to celebrate African-American history and culture are lectures, a concert and a play.
