The Legal Writing Program at the Walter F. George School of Law of Mercer University is the top-ranked program among all of the law schools in the nation as announced today by U.S. News and World Report. The 2008 edition of America's Best Graduate Schools lists Mercer's program first in the country after a ranking of second in 2007 and tied for first with Seattle in 2006.

MACON - A new grant from the Charles G. Koch Charitable Foundation will help Stetson School of Business and Economics professor Scott Beaulier, Ph.D., advance the study of political economy at Mercer University. Dr. Beaulier, the department chair and assistant professor of economics, will give a special topics course for the spring semester and bring in a number of high-level economists to deliver lectures on contemporary issues in political economy.
ATLANTA-Mercer University Southern School of Pharmacy student Adina Hirsch was one of 10 students in the country awarded the prestigious Gateway Research Scholarship from the American Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education.   Hirsch, a first-year student in Mercer's doctor of pharmacy degree program, will receive a $5,000 stipend to assist Mercer's Dr. Ajay K. Banga, associate professor of pharmaceutical sciences, with pharmaceutical research for the next year.   "I am thinking of a career in research, and working for Dr. Banga will be very good exposure to pharmaceutical research," Hirsch, an Atlanta resident, said.   Specifically, Hirsch will research administering the drug Tacrine through the skin using in vitro skin samples. Macon, Ga.- The CRCT, ITBS, High School Graduation Test and other benchmark and standardized tests are at the forefront of many students', teachers' and parents' minds this spring. MACON - Christy A. Webb of Waynesboro, Ga., took home more than a bachelor of arts degree from the May 12 commencement at Mercer University. She received the top honor presented to an undergraduate of the university: the Louie D. Newton General Excellence Medal.
MACON - Mercer University will host an art show, reception and variety show on Oct. 5 to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure's fight against breast cancer. The event will be held in McCorkle Music Building, located off Adams Street. The art show and reception will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the variety show will follow at 7:30 p.m. Donations will be accepted at the door. The art show will consist of landscape paintings and photography by Middle Georgia artists and is curated by Mercer's Martha Malone, professor of music; Gary Blackburn, professor of art; and Craig Coleman, associate professor of art. Warner Robins--Mercer University President R. Kirby Godsey and Warner Robins Air Logistics Center (WR-ALC) Commander Brig. Gen. Michael A. Collings reaffirmed a longstanding partnership between the University and the Base Thursday. Godsey and Collings signed a modified educational partnership agreement between the WR-ALC and the University. The University established the School of Engineering in 1985 as a commitment to assist WR-ALC in fulfilling its mission by providing well-rounded, highly educated engineers in the Central Georgia area. Mercer University School of Engineering now provides the largest percentage of engineers to Robins of any educational institution in the nation, with an estimated 40 percent of the new engineers hired by the Base this fiscal year being Mercer graduates.
