MACON-- Mercer University will hold a free information session on its new master's program, the Holistic Educator, on the Macon campus Monday, Sept. 22, at 4:30 p.m. at Stetson Hall, room 162.   The University will also hold an information session at the Regional Academic Center in Eastman, Wednesday, Sept. 24, at 5 p.m. With classes beginning in October in Eastman and Macon, Mercer is breaking ground with this innovative graduate program. A program of Mercer's Tift College of Education, the Holistic Educator is designed to benefit more than the classroom teacher. A wide range of professionals who work with children or families, including family specialists, caregivers and health educators, can use the information offered through the Holistic Educator graduate program. MACON- As a part of the National Endowment for the Humanities Lecture Series, acclaimed authors and scholars Eric Klinenberg and Ellen Ruppel Shell will speak on two hot topics at Mercer University April 12 and 14. Both lectures are free and open to the public. Klinenberg, author of Heat Wave: A Social Autopsy of Disaster in Chicago, (University of Chicago Press, 2002), will speak at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, April 12, in the Mercer University School of Medicine Auditorium. In his presentation entitled "Why Heat Waves are so Deadly: Urban Vulnerability from Chicago to Paris," he will give insight into the social breakdown that occurred during the devastating heat wave in Chicago in July of 1995.  An assistant professor of sociology at New York University, Klinenberg is a Chicago native passionate about public and politically engaged social science. MACON - Mercer University's Walter F. George School of Law will hold its commencement at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 12, in the Macon City Auditorium, with approximately 120 graduates receiving degrees during the ceremony.   Recently retired Georgia Supreme Court Chief Justice Norman S. Fletcher will deliver the commencement address to graduates. The University will also award Justice Fletcher a Doctor of Laws honorary degree during the ceremony.   Justice Fletcher was sworn in as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Georgia on June 28, 2001. He served continuously on the Court from his appointment on Dec. 28, 1989, by Gov. Joe Frank Harris until he retired from the Court in June of 2005.   He began his law practice in 1958 and in 1963 formed a partnership with the late George P. Shaw and Irwin W. ATLANTA- Lithia Springs resident Lynn Clemons was recently appointed director of the Organization Leadership Program for Mercer University's College of Continuing and Professional Studies.   Clemons has worked for Mercer for eight years, serving as a professor, mentor and coordinator of the University's Regional Academic Center in Douglas County.   The Organization Leadership Program is a degree completion program established by Mercer in 2000. To enroll in the program, students must have at least four years of work experience and 60 hours of previous college experience. As the program is designed for working adults, classes are held each Saturday for 16 months at Mercer's Cecil B. Day Campus in Atlanta and the Regional Academic Center in Douglas County.  MACON, Ga.- The Mercer men's basketball team opens a two-game Atlantic Sun Conference homestand playing host to league-newcomer Kennesaw State Thursday night in the University. MACON - Mercer's recently established Center for the Teaching of America's Western Foundations will sponsor three lectures this fall and spring, as well as a conference in April to shed light on the intellectual underpinnings of American society, particularly the influence of prominent Western philosophers and thinkers.
