ATLANTA—Mercer University nursing professors Dr. Sara Mitchell and Dr. Rebecca Shabo of Cartersville recently were selected by Georgia First Lady Mary Perdue to share their perspectives on important children’s health care issues in Georgia.

Stating that she wants to make major health care issues for Georgia’s children a priority during her husband’s administration, Georgia’s First Lady invited 12 child health care experts to the Governor’s Mansion for a discussion.

Mitchell and Shabo are both pediatric nurse practitioners and teach child health nursing at Georgia Baptist College of Nursing of Mercer University. The two professors came to the table with more than 30 years of experience in children’s health care.

Among the topics Mitchell and Shabo discussed with Georgia’s first lady were the need for more school nurses, day care for medically fragile children and day care alternatives for a child with a minor illness whose parent needs to go to work.
