Proudly wear your orange and black this weekend as the Mercer Bears take on the VMI Keydets at 4 p.m. Sept. 30 at Five Star Stadium. Here are three things to know before you go.
It’s Family Weekend
Expect a crowd as our Bears treat their families to the full Mercer experience. Families will be tailgating on Black Field and joining us for the game, so be sure to snag your spot early. Black Field opens for pre-game festivities at 11 a.m. At the Fall Line Beer Garden, fans ages 21 and older may enjoy locally brewed craft beer, including Ol’ Toby Easy Ale, the official beer of Mercer Athletics. At Dr Pepper Fansville, kids can jump and play on inflatables.
Country musicians take the stage for the Ford Concert Series
Country music singer-songwriter Chase Matthew will headline the Ford Concert Series at a stage on Black Field before the game. His sophomore album, Come Get Your Memory, was released earlier this year. Also taking the stage will be country artists Sean Stemaly and Joe Lasher. The music kicks off with Lasher at 11:45 a.m., followed by Stemaly at 12:30 p.m. There will be a brief break in music for the Bear Walk at 1:30 p.m. before Matthew performs at 1:45 p.m.
It’s Mercer’s first home game against a SoCon opponent
The Bears face their first Southern Conference challenger at home when they kick off at 4 p.m. against the Keydets. So far, Mercer is 0-1 in the SoCon after losing at Furman on Sept. 23. Meanwhile, VMI is 1-0 after beating Wofford at home. Will the Bears’ homefield advantage help turn the tide?
