MACON, Ga. — Mercer University’s student-run service leadership board for the Macon campus, MerServe, will host the University’s annual “Be a Good NeighBear” service day this Saturday in partnership with local outreach organizations.
More than 450 Mercer University students, faculty and staff will come together to make a meaningful impact across Middle Georgia.
“NeighBear is one of the annual events that students genuinely seem excited about and show up in numbers to give back to middle Georgia,” said Margaret Rooyakkers, assistant director of service and civic engagement. “It is more than a service day; it has become a Mercer tradition where Bears come together to give back to our community that gives so much to us during our time in Macon.”
This flagship event offers students the opportunity to volunteer alongside community partners involving more than 25 community service projects, including:
- All About Animals Rescue
- Alexander II School – Grounds Clean Up
- Brave Meadows Therapeutic Riding Center
- Brookdale Center
- Mulberry Outreach Garden
- Sleep in Heavenly Peace-Bed Build: Volunteers will meet at Mercer’s College Street Commons to build beds to address bedlessness in Macon.
The events will take place rain or shine.
MerServe is sponsored by the Center for Community Engagement, a clearinghouse for volunteer services at Mercer.
