Josh Gaisser, assistant director of Housing and Residence Life at Mercer University, thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail. He completed a flip-flop hike, starting by himself at Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, and hiking north to Mount Katahdin in Maine before driving back to Harpers Ferry and continuing the hike south to Springer Mountain, Georgia. Gaisser tells us how he got through those tough days on the trail and what he learned from the experience. Beyond the Bear is a video series in which we talk to Mercer University faculty and staff about their passions, hobbies and interests outside of work.
