Morgan Goeckel recently graduated from Mercer University’s College of Education with a Master of Education in higher education leadership.
What are your plans after graduation?
I accepted a job to work for Oglethorpe University in Atlanta as the coordinator for student engagement!
What is one of your favorite Mercer memories?
My favorite memory was when the first football game of this season was delayed due to a surprise storm right before kick off. Working in Campus Life is always an adventure, and that game day is the perfect example. We went from having so much fun preparing for the game and tailgate to quickly helping get everything secured as the storm rolled in and then driving around campus to update students the game was back on. Seeing all the students come back and having so much fun with my coworkers was worth the delay. And the perfect end to the day was the rainbow and gorgeous sunset right next to Five Star!
What advice do you have for incoming students?
Embrace all that Mercer has to offer. Your time at Mercer will fly by, and you don’t want to look back wishing you joined that student organization or took that leadership opportunity. Make the most of your time and enjoy it!
How did Mercer prepare you for your future?
When I came to Mercer, I planned to become a teacher. I even earned my bachelor’s degree in education and became certified to teach! Though I loved teaching, I had the opportunity to become a graduate assistant for Campus Life and have my tuition covered, so of course I took the opportunity! In just two years, I found my passion working in higher education and with student engagement. Becoming a graduate assistant wouldn’t have been possible without all the amazing leadership opportunities I had and student organizations I was a part of in undergrad. Mercer has given me so many amazing opportunities leading me to a career I love!
What makes Mercer special to you?
I was lucky enough to complete my undergrad at Mercer as well, so I’ve been in Macon the last six years! Mercer and Macon have grown to be my home where I’ve met so many amazing people and found myself. I am so proud to be a Double Bear! It’s bittersweet that it’s time to leave.
