Rose Gambrell is graduating from Mercer University’s School of Engineering with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in industrial engineering.
What are your plans after graduation?
Returning for my master’s in engineering management and working as a lab coordinator for the School of Engineering.
What was your favorite class and why?
My favorite class was Lean Six Sigma with Dr. Melinda Hollingshed. Lean Six Sigma is a process improvement and quality control class that teaches us how to reduce waste in assembly and manufacturing. Her class always had me engaged and asking questions and reminded me why I love engineering.
What advice do you have for incoming students?
To be as open minded as possible and to get involved! Mercer has so many great opportunities to be active on our campus, from student groups to honor societies, so take advantage of them, and you can build some lifelong connections.
How did Mercer prepare you for your future?
Mercer gave me the tools I needed to feel confident in a workplace and to trust my instincts. From working on my first engineering projects all the way to senior capstone design, I learned vital lessons in problem solving, critical thinking and adaptability. Mercer focuses on a hands-on learning approach, which not only helped me become a better engineer but a better communicator and teammate.
What makes Mercer special to you?
The community is what makes Mercer so special. Our campus has such a special bond, and it has always felt like a second home to me. I’m so happy I get to stick around for another year!
