Samuel Oliver Jr. is graduating from Mercer University’s School of Engineering with a Master of Science in technical communication management.
What are your plans after graduation?
I am currently in an executive leadership position at a community college. I was promoted while in the program. I plan on using the skills and theories that I learned while in the program to offer better routes of communication for my students. Sometimes it is not what is said, it is how it is presented.
Who was your favorite professor and why?
I had four professors the entirety of my program, and all of them were phenomenal in their own ways: Dr. Guiseppe Getto, Dr. Philip Gallagher, Dr. Pam Brewer, and Dr. Bremen Vance. It is very hard to choose between them because of the overall wealth of knowledge I received from them.
What is one of your favorite Mercer memories?
My very first class. After talking with the program director, I wasn’t sure if I would be a good fit, but he was very persistent and kept telling me that I could do this, so I did.
What was your favorite class and why?
Visual communications! I learned so much, and I was able to take my design work to another level due to learning the materials in Dr. Gallagher’s class.
What makes Mercer special to you?
Mercer will always hold a special place in my heart. When I learned that I was nearing graduation, I started a campaign called “Lucky No. Se7en” as this is my seventh and last degree. It marks an end of a great journey and will always hold a special place in my heart. So proud to be a Bear!
