Susanna Jenkins recently graduated from Mercer University’s School of Medicine with a Doctor of Medicine.

What are your plans after graduation?

I will begin my pediatric residency with the residents and attendings I love at Atrium Health Navicent here in Macon. Then, after residency, I hope to serve rural Middle Georgia as a primary care pediatrician!

Who was your favorite professor and why?

Dr. Balint Kacsoh! He never failed to encourage at times I needed encouragement the most.

What is one of your favorite Mercer memories?

Match Day! It was so special seeing my colleagues’ hard work pay off as well as where we’d all end up for our next step as doctors.

What was your favorite class and why?

It’s hard to pick one. I’d say Block 3 was a really neat time of study. I loved learning how intricately connected the cardiovascular, renal and pulmonary systems are. We’re so beautifully and complexly made.

How do you plan on changing the world?

I love Ephesians 4:1 where Paul encourages us to walk worthy of the calling we have received with all lowliness and gentleness. I just want to walk worthy of the calling of the Lord on my life to be a pediatrician and serve the Middle Georgia kiddos and their families well.

What advice do you have for incoming students?

Be humble and realize you’re a STUDENT. It’s OK that you don’t know everything — you’re here to learn. Be teachable!
