Mercer Innovation Center was recognized as an Emerging Leader during this year’s Partners in Progress Awards, held Nov. 8 at the Armory Ballroom in downtown Macon.
“The Mercer Innovation Center is honored to be recognized by NewTown and looks forward to supporting the development of future entrepreneurs in Macon-Bibb,” said Stephanie Howard, deputy director of the Mercer Innovation Center. “We are excited about upcoming businesses and innovators that will choose Macon as their start-up home due to support from our partnering community organizations.”
NewTown Macon was established in 1996 with support from the Peyton Anderson Foundation as a nonprofit, public-private partnership focused on restoring and reestablishing downtown Macon as a thriving center of economic, cultural and social activity.
For more than 20 years, the organization has provided Macon with leadership, planning and support toward this goal, and the community has responded by investing more than $350 million to improve downtown. For more information, visit www.newtownmacon.com.
About the Mercer Innovation Center
The Mercer Innovation Center is an effort by Mercer University, along with community partners such as the Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority, Birch Communications, the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and Dr. Hugh F. Smisson III, to advance a culture of innovation and develop a thriving community of entrepreneurs, with a focus on utilizing technology to foster economic growth, create 21st century jobs and attract and retain talent. The Center is an institutional effort – led by the Stetson School of Business and Economics – that crosses academic disciplines and geographic boundaries to draw from all of the University’s colleges, schools, departments and operating units. Community memberships are available, as the Center’s activities and resources are intended to be available to Mercer students and non-students alike. For more information, visit mic.mercer.edu.
