Mercer University School of Medicine and its Georgia Rural Health Innovation Center are holding a supply drive for rural populations adversely affected by Hurricane Helene.

The drive will focus on rural communities with which the School of Medicine and Georgia Rural Health Innovation Center have established relationships through their Kids Alliance for Better Care, or KidsABC, program.

“Hurricane Helene has caused devastation across Georgia, especially in rural areas where resources are limited. The School of Medicine and Georgia Rural Health Innovation Center are honored to organize this drive for the rural hospitals that participate in our KidsABC program,” said School of Medicine Dean Jean Sumner, M.D., FACP.

“Many of these hospitals have been able to assist members of their community already, even while their facilities may have been damaged and staff face their own challenges,” she said. “This drive will help replenish basic supplies for the hospitals and for their communities.”

School of Medicine faculty, staff and students are working together in this effort. The greater Mercer community is welcome to participate.

“We know the difficulties people are navigating, and we’ve seen the efforts of citizens and organizations across the state to help. Serving our rural communities is our mission at the School of Medicine and Georgia Rural Health Innovation Center,” said Dr. Sumner. “This drive is an opportunity for our staff, faculty and students to come together and do something good. We invite all of Mercer to join us in this effort by donating much-needed supplies.”
