Medicine Hosts Fly Fishing Retreat for Cancer Survivors

Mercer University School of Medicine is hosting a fly fishing retreat for breast cancer survivors on Saturday, April 20, in Forsyth.

The retreat incorporates both beginner fly fishing instruction and social support in an outdoor setting. Participants will learn how to tie flies and will be taught casting technique by Wanda Taylor, a master level fly casting instructor. The retreat is a volunteer effort being organized by Taylor and women fly fishers from Georgia.

“Fly fishing encourages healing in many ways,” says Janet Piskurich, an assistant professor

at the Medical School who is helping to organize the event. “The casting motion itself is a good stretching exercise that can benefit most breast cancer survivors.”

Space is limited.
