Students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends can soon keep up with Mercer athletics each week, thanks to a new Mercer-produced television show.

Beginning Friday, Jan. 17, Mercer In a Minute, a 60-second wrap-up of weekly Bears’ athletics will air on the 58 ABC Sport Show, hosted by Sara Walsh and Frank Sulkowski.

Mercer In a Minute is a segment hosted by Mercer students and will air each Friday evening during the 6 p.m. and 11 p.m., 58 ABC
Sports Show. 58 ABC is locally-owned affiliate WPGA, which covers a large viewing area in the mid-state.

Mercer In a Minute is produced entirely by Mercer students with assistance from advisor and Mercer Multimedia Production
specialist Rebecca Sandifer. “Mercer In A Minute is just one of many outlets available for Mercer students with an interest in the many aspects of broadcast television and/or sports information,” Sandifer said. “I am excited to help these students see their efforts recognized.”

Segment producer and current host, Tom Abbott, is a junior with a strong interest in broadcast and is part of the team that will develop the weekly updates. According to Abbott,  “Mercer In a Minute is a very exciting new venture for Mercer University. It enhances Mercer athletics in the local area and gives students the chance to obtain practical experience in television production. I believe this signals that we are beginning to walk down a new avenue of education at Mercer.”

Abbot and Sandifer extend an invitation to any who are interested in any area of video production or broadcast TV (including, videotaping, editing, graphics production and more) to contact them at mercersportsshow@yahoo.com

Rick Cameron is senior associate athletic director for communications, overseeing athletic media relations, including management of mercerbears.com, the official website of Mercer Athletics, while also maintaining his broadcasting responsibilities as Voice of the Bears.
