SECURITY ALERT

As you know . . .

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has made the American public aware that the threat of terrorism has been raised to the ORANGE classification, which is the second highest level of threat awareness. According to the Department, we should be observant of unusual circumstances in our immediate surroundings, for example, persons, vehicles, unattended packages, or other suspicious items or activities that are inconsistent with daily campus life. Every member of the Mercer community has a role to play in ensuring the safety of our campus. During this time of heightened awareness, we are asking you to do the following:

In the event you see something unusual, please contact Mercer Police in Macon at (478) 301-2970 (or x2970), and in Atlanta at (678) 547-6358 (or x6358).
As always, if you anticipate a change in your daily routine, we encourage you to make family and friends aware of your plans.

Be assured . . .

The University has plans in place to address emergency preparedness, response, and recovery. Additionally, the University has established lines of communication with all local, state, and federal agencies that will assist Mercer officials in responding to any emergency situation. In such an event, guidance will be available through the following resources:

By calling 478-301-5335 (x5335) – for the Macon and Eastman campuses, and (678) 547-6111 (or x6111) – for the Atlanta, Covington, Douglas County, and Griffin campuses
By viewing www.mercer.edu
By reading your campus e-mail
By watching in Macon the on-campus Channel 99 or by accessing your local media outlet, and in Atlanta by watching WSB-TV.

Rick Cameron is senior associate athletic director for communications, overseeing athletic media relations, including management of mercerbears.com, the official website of Mercer Athletics, while also maintaining his broadcasting responsibilities as Voice of the Bears.
