ATLANTA – Certified financial planner Mike Kavanagh, host of WSB’s “Money Matters,” will speak about retirement and financial planning for women at Mercer University’s Georgia Baptist College of Nursing on the Cecil B. Day Campus, 3001 Mercer University Dr., in Atlanta on Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. in Room 304. Although the event is free and open to the public, seating is limited and interested participants must reserve a seat.
In 1993, Money Magazine‘s Wall Street correspondent Jordan Goodman wrote that Kavanagh was “the best financial talk show host in America.” Today, Kavanagh continues to lay claim to that title with one of the longest running financial talk shows in the country. His weekly show can be heard live each Sunday morning, 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., and re-broadcast Monday morning, 3 a.m. until 5 a.m.
Kavanagh serves as an advisor to WSB consumer advocate Clark Howard, airing daily money reports for Atlanta’s morning news. He also provides live market updates for WSB listeners every afternoon, including the closing market and local stock reports at the close of the trading day. His recently-published book, Real U Guide™ to Saving and Investing, includes all the basics for a first-time investor who wants to learn how to invest safely in stocks, bonds, and mutual funds.
Kavanagh is a member of the Financial Planning Association and is registered with the SEC to dispense financial advice on a fee-only basis. He is the winner of numerous journalism awards in his long career, including the prestigious Edward R. Murrow award for Investigative Reporting. His work in the community has also been honored with the Mike Kavanagh Public Service award given annually by the Georgia Network to End Sexual Assault.
