(MACON) Theatre IV, the nation’s second largest touring theatre for young audiences, will present the children’s musical The Ugly Duckling at 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. March 22 at The Grand Opera House. Tickets are $6 each and can be purchased through Mercer Ticket Sales at (478) 301-5470 or online at thegrand.mercer.edu.

Most children are familiar with the fable of the swan that grows up “ugly” in a family of ducks, later to find his appearance changing as he discovers his true identity. However, folk traditions of other cultures use different animals to teach the lesson of the “ugly duckling.” Theatre IV unites the classic ugly duckling with the Burmese mole that hates dirt and the Inuit bald eagle with a full head of hair. These three “misfit” heroes work together to earn their home on the King’s estate and to find the self-confidence that only friendship and accomplishment can provide. Both educational and entertaining, children will love this all-singing, all-dancing, all-delightful new musical.

The Ugly Duckling is recommended for children in elementary grades, and educators are encouraged to register their student groups for a performance. For group registration information, call Mercer Ticket Sales at (478) 301-5470 or download the Registration Form at thegrand.mercer.edu.

Founded in 1975, Theatre IV has been internationally acclaimed for excellence as a theatre for young audiences. The company performs live for nearly 2 million students, parents and teachers each year throughout 33 states and the District of Columbia.
