Mercer to Host State-Wide High School Math Competition on Saturday

WHO:  An estimated 200 high school students from across the state, including teams from Macon’s Central High School, Westside High School, Mount De Sales Academy, Tattnall Square Academy and First Presbyterian Day School as well as Warner Robins’ Houston County High School and Northside High School and Gray’s Jones County High School.
 
WHAT: High school teams will face off in a daylong math competition with a pen and pencil component in the morning and a fast-paced ciphering contest in the afternoon, in which students will have two minutes to complete complex math problems. Mercer’s Department of Mathematics faculty and students will serve as judges.
 
WHEN:  Saturday, Nov. 10, written competition: 9:45 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., ciphering competition: 1:30 – 2:30 p.m., awards presentation to follow.
 
WHERE: Mercer University School of Medicine Auditorium, 1550 College Street, Macon campus.
 
BACKGROUND:   This is the 23rd year Mercer University has hosted this statewide high school math competition.
