Dalton Loyd is graduating from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences with a Bachelor of Science in biology and a Bachelor of Arts in religion.
What are your plans after graduation?
I will pursue a career in higher education while obtaining a master’s in higher education leadership.
Who was your favorite professor and why?
Dr. Paul Lewis. He encouraged me to become a religion major during a simple gen-ed class that I took my senior year. He poured into me the love of religion in the academic world, and I am forever grateful for his guidance and mentorship.
What is one of your favorite Mercer memories?
One of my favorite Mercer memories happens every year before Thanksgiving. It is when the Fresh Food Company has a large assortment of traditional Thanksgiving food, and everyone is able to enjoy a large meal with their friends, classmates and coworkers. It truly puts everyone in the holiday spirit and gives us students the push we need to make it through finals.
What advice do you have for incoming students?
Don’t let the bad days define your college experience! College comes with lots of highs and lows, and, unfortunately, bad days will happen. However, find the small things that bring you joy in those rough times, whether that be a friend, classmate, a piece of fried chicken from the caf, or a nice scenic spot on campus!
What makes Mercer special to you?
Mercer is a special place to me because of its emphasis on supporting every aspect of a student’s life. Mercer ensures that members of its community are taken care of physically, emotionally and spiritually. This place emphasizes checking in on one another in the community, and it strengthens the bond that all Mercerians share with one another.
