ATLANTA — Mercer University’s Dr. Karen Rowland, an assistant professor of counseling in the College of Continuing and Professional Studies, has been named the Counselor Educator of the Year for 2012 by the Georgia School Counselors Association. Dr. Rowland will also represent Georgia for ASCA’s national counselor educator of the year award in 2013. This prestigious award is based on commitment to excellence in guidance and counseling.
“I am delighted that Dr. Rowland has been recognized statewide for her vision, talent and leadership as a school counselor educator and that she is leading Mercer’s graduate programs in school counseling,” said Dr. Priscilla Danheiser, dean of the College of Continuing and Professional Studies.
Dr. Rowland joined the faculty at Mercer in 2008. She previously served as assistant professor at Clark Atlanta University. Dr. Rowland served as the coordinator/counselor educator liaison for the Georgia School Counselors Association Leadership Team from 2010-2011. She has many publications in academic journals and newsletters and has presented her work throughout the country.
Dr. Rowland received her Bachelor of Science and Master of Education from the University of Maine. In 2001, she received her Ph.D. in counselor education from the University of South Carolina.
