Have you been looking for the perfect place to study? As finals week gets underway, Mercer University offers various spaces for students to prepare for their exams, whether they are looking for a quiet corner or a lively environment. Here are five of our favorite places to study on Mercer’s Macon campus during finals week.

24-Hour Study Space at Tarver Library

The name says it all. The 24-hour study space on the first floor of Tarver Library is accessible to students 24/7 via Bear Card. This space offers students a place to work out difficult problems and focus on studying, while also providing additional resources to aid in their academic success. There is plenty of table space to spread out materials; large, mobile dry-erase boards for calculations and memorization; and printing availability. An additional benefit of the 24-hour study space is the micro market next to the entryway. Here, students can stay hydrated and energized while they crush homework and add finishing touches to essays. The 24-hour space is especially handy for late-night studiers.

Study Rooms at Tarver Library

The study rooms in Tarver Library are great for one student or a small group of students to get work done. Study rooms allow up to six students to study for as long as they like without feeling overwhelmed by their environment or getting distracted by other people. Additionally, they are great areas for students to meet and organize their thoughts and ideas for a group project. Study rooms are the optimal space for students who learn best in quiet corners versus busy areas. Pro tip: The study rooms operate on a first-come, first-served basis, so it is important to grab a room early in the morning.

Empty Classrooms

An empty classroom can be a student’s best friend when it comes to productivity. After classes, most students head back to their residence hall, grab food or hang out with friends, making an empty classroom a perfect place to get work done and finish assignments. An empty classroom can also help reduce anxiety about presentations and increase preparedness. That’s because most classrooms have lecterns equipped with computers or adapters to display presentations, which can be useful for mock presentations. With that in mind, students can visit an empty classroom with friends, classmates or by themselves to practice their presentation. While an empty classroom is quite handy, it is important to ensure no organizations or clubs have reserved the room after classes end, so be sure to glance at the classroom schedule before staking out a study session.

The tables in Cruz Plaza offer a studying space for students looking for a different atmosphere. It is always a great idea to go outside every once in a while and get some fresh air instead of staying cooped up inside all day. Taking the opportunity to go outside can offer students a different-paced environment and help provide mental clarity. While cold weather can make it difficult to stay focused and engaged for some students, it helps others stay alert. The tables in Cruz Plaza are best suited for students who do not mind people walking to and from buildings throughout the day.

Z Beans Coffee

Z Beans Coffee in Mercer Village is the perfect spot off campus to prepare for finals while still remaining within walking distance of campus. The shop offers a wide variety of coffee, bakery items and sandwiches that can help students stay alert and energized as they study. Additionally, Z Beans has ambient noise, which can be more beneficial than complete silence or noisy, busy environments for some students. Z Beans also offers students a change of scenery that can help them conjure up new ideas or solve hard problems. As finals week kicks off, students on their way to grab their morning coffee should take their notes with them and fit in a study session while enjoying breakfast.
