MACON, Ga. — Mercer University’s Auxiliary Services recently earned Illumia’s Distinction Award for Innovation Excellence at the Annual Momentum 26 Illumia Conference, held March 4, in Nashville, Tennessee. The award recognized the University’s new cloud-based access control system initiative.

“This award is a testament to our unwavering commitment to innovation,” said Ken Boyer, associate vice president for Auxiliary Services.

In 2018, Mercer was among the first eight schools in the nation to launch mobile credentials using the Apple iOS platform. The technology allowed Mercer to facilitate a variety of mobile ID transactions at dining halls, athletic facilities, libraries, campus events, bookstores, laundry rooms, and off-campus locations where student IDs are accepted.

“Since that groundbreaking moment, we have expanded our offerings to include mobile credentials for Android devices, mobile ordering, cloud-based point of sale systems, cloud-based credential provisioning, and now advanced cloud-based access control solutions,” said Boyer. “Our partnerships with Illumia, Genea, and others enable us to provide exceptional mobile and cloud-based services that truly enhance the campus experience for everyone.”

Boyer said the University’s previous access control infrastructure served Mercer well for more than 30 years, but as they looked toward the future, the goal was to continue offering best-in-class services that ensured a secure and connected campus experience.
