It takes a lot of people to make Mercer University the institution that it is. The students have and always will be the lifeblood of our University, but Mercer wouldn’t be Mercer without expert faculty members to pass on their knowledge and highly-skilled staff members to manage day-to-day operations. Our “Worker Bears” series highlights the Mercer employees who work tirelessly, often behind the scenes, to care for our University and our students.

Meet Brenda Nixon

Title: Food service worker

How long she’s worked at Mercer: Nixon has worked at Mercer for 33 years. If you came through the Fresh Food Company on the Macon campus anytime since 1988, there’s a chance you’ve seen her.

What she does: She currently makes sandwiches and wraps in the deli, but over the years, she’s worked at all the stations and in catering.

What she loves most about her work: Nixon said she loves everything about her job, especially talking to the students, faculty and staff. She likes getting to know people and people getting to know her. “I have my regulars, and I’m like, ‘You want what you usually get,’ and they’re like, ‘Yes, ma’am,'” she said with a laugh. “So I just go make their sandwich then.”
