Mercer Law School Dean Daisy Hurst Floyd has announced plans to step down from her administrative duties and return to full-time teaching at the end of the 2016-17 academic year.
“Dean Floyd recently came to me and indicated a desire to return full-time to the classroom,” said Mercer Provost Dr. D. Scott Davis. “She has been an outstanding dean of the law school not once, but twice, during her Mercer tenure, and her leadership in the Dean's Office will be missed. But I understand and support her desire to spend more time in the classroom working directly with students.”

Floyd served as dean of the Law School from 2004 to 2010 before being appointed University Professor of Law and Ethical Formation, a position she continues to hold since beginning her second term as dean in February 2014.
“It's been a great privilege to serve as dean of Mercer Law School, and I look forward to being a part of the Mercer Law faculty for many years to come,” Floyd said. “I am proud of the accomplishments of the last several years and grateful for the hard work of so many dedicated students, staff, faculty, and alumni who have made them possible.”

Underwood. “I have enjoyed working with her as dean and as a University Professor, and I am grateful for the selfless service she has provided to our students and to Mercer. I look forward to seeing the contributions she will continue to make as a member of our faculty in the years ahead.”
Provost Davis has appointed a search committee to begin the process of recruiting a new dean for the Law School. The committee is chaired by the Honorable W. Louis Sands, Senior U.S. District Judge for the Middle District of Georgia. Judge Sands is a Mercer trustee and earned bachelor's and J.D. degrees from the University.
Other members of the search committee include: Ann Bishop, attorney with Sponsler, Bishop, Koren & Hammer, P.A., law alumna and incoming chair of the Law School Board of Visitors; Dwight J. Davis, former partner at King & Spalding, law alumnus, Mercer trustee, and forming Visiting Professor of Trial Advocacy; the Honorable Sarah L. Doyle, Chief Judge of the Georgia Court of Appeals, law alumna and Mercer trustee; and the Honorable Marc Treadwell, U.S. District Judge for the Middle District of Georgia, law alumnus, adjunct professor of law, and Mercer trustee.
Mercer academic administrators and faculty serving on the search committee include: Tim Floyd, Tommy Malone Distinguished Chair in Trial Advocacy and Director of Experiential Education at the Law School; Sarah Gerwig-Moore, associate professor of law; Dr. Lisa Lundquist, dean of the College of Health Professions; David Ritchie, Director of International Initiatives at the Law School and professor of law and philosophy; and Monica Armstrong Roudil, associate professor of law.
