ATLANTA/MACON – Mercer University will continue the 2015-2016 Executive Forum Feb. 16 with presentations by Mara Liasson, national political correspondent for National Public Radio (NPR) and political contributor to Fox News, in Atlanta and Macon.
Liasson will offer her thoughts on the 2016 presidential election to Executive Forum members and invited guests during a noon lunch presentation at the Capital City Club in downtown Atlanta and a 6:30 p.m. dinner presentation in the Presidents Dining Room inside the University Center on Mercer's Macon campus.
“We are very proud to present such a well-respected political and business journalist in this most unusual election year,” said Dr. Susan P. Gilbert, dean of Mercer's Stetson School of Business and Economics. “Whether you are interested in stock market volatility, social programs, tax policy or U.S. military presence, this is a critical election. I am intrigued to hear her very informed opinion about the upcoming election.”
Liasson joined NPR in 1985 as a general assignment reporter and newscaster. She covered Congress and served as the White House correspondent during all eight years of the Clinton administration. Currently, as the national political correspondent, her reports can be heard on the award-winning news magazines “All Things Considered” and “Morning Edition.” During her tenure, she has covered all the presidential elections since 1992 and reports on Senate and House races every election year.
Additionally, Liasson has been a contributor to Fox since 1997, and she presently serves as a panelist on “Special Report with Bret Baier” and “Fox News Sunday,” which is the broadcasting company's public affairs program that airs nationwide each Sunday morning.
Liasson earned her bachelor's degree in American history from Brown University. Prior to joining NPR, she was a freelance radio and television reporter in San Francisco, managing editor and anchor of a California Public Radio nightly news program and a print journalist for a newspaper in Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts.
From September 1988 to June 1989, she took a leave of absence from NPR to attend Columbia University as a recipient of a Knight-Bagehot Fellowship in Economics and Business Journalism.
Liasson has received numerous awards and honors for her reporting, including the White House Correspondents Association's Merriman Smith Award in 1994, 1995 and 1997 for excellence in daily news reporting.
