Get to know Mercer University‘s faculty members a little better through our “Faculty Flashback” series. Some of our professors will be sharing personal and professional details of their lives in a Q&A as well as then-and-now photos from today and their college days.

Stephanie Howard, director of the Mercer Innovation Center, has worked at Mercer for six years. She earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from Tennessee State University in 2000 and a Master of Business Administration from Wesleyan College in 2013. Learn more about her in the Q&A below.

1. What advice, related to life or college, would you offer students at Mercer now?
Be patient with yourself, and allow time to explore the many options life has to offer. Life is a marathon, not a sprint.

2. What is something you wish you knew in college that you know now?
To be present and not fixate on the future. It is easy to be distracted by the future you are working toward, but don’t forget to appreciate the moments you are experiencing now. Also, take lots of pictures, not just selfies, but photos of events and surroundings. You will appreciate these captured moments later in life.

3. What made you want to join the team at Mercer?
I joined the team at Mercer because I wanted to make a positive impact on future business professionals. Mercer is a place where connections with faculty, staff and students are a way of life, and that is important to me as well.

4. What do you love most about your work?
I love interacting with students! It is great to be able to share knowledge and experiences with future leaders. I strive to make an impact that will improve their lives and help them achieve the successes they dream of.

5. What are some of your hobbies and interests outside of work?
Traveling is my passion outside of work. I love exploring the world and visiting historical sites.
