Gracie Wood is graduating from Mercer University’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences with a Bachelor of Science in psychology.

What are your plans after graduation?

I will be attending the University of St. Augustine for my Doctor of Occupational Therapy, achieving my doctorate at the age of 23!

Who was your favorite professor and why?

With the exception of one, I took all of my classes for my minor in sociology with Dr. Yu Guo. Her teaching style and class format made me feel like my well-being mattered more than a letter in a grade book.

How do you plan on changing the world?

I plan to change the world by showing how you can truly do anything you put your mind to. Faith, determination and dedication are essential for achieving goals! Coming in with no transfer credits and with neither parent obtaining a bachelor degree, I have been able to graduate from Mercer with my B.S. degree in three years rather than four, while working part time my entire college career. I was accepted into four doctorate programs on my first try and will add Dr. to my name before the age of 24, completing all of my schooling in five rather than seven or eight years. It has been hard, but it will be so worth it!

What advice do you have for incoming students?

You are so much more than a simple number on a GPA scale. If something isn’t working for you, don’t be afraid to try something new!

What makes Mercer special to you?

I wouldn’t change anything about my Mercer experience! From the professors to my friends made in class to intramural teammates to simply recognizing familiar faces around campus, the relationships made here have been beyond supportive. I truly have succeeded here, not only as a student, but I’ve grown so much as a person!
