Lara Edgeman is graduating from Mercer University‘s Tift College of Education with a Bachelor of Science in Education in elementary and special education and College of Liberal Arts and Sciences with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish.
What are your plans after graduation?
I will be going to Mexico on a Mercer On Mission trip to teach a summer STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) camp. I will then be returning to my hometown to teach lower grades in Chatsworth. I plan to pursue an online master’s degree in educational leadership.
Who was your favorite professor and why?
My favorite professor was Libertad Aranza, lecturer of foreign languages and literatures. She inspired me to pursue my degree in Spanish and made me a culturally aware teacher. I consider her a professor, mentor and friend.
What is one of your favorite Mercer memories?
My favorite Mercer memories are marching in Universal Studios with the Mercer Marching Band as a color guard member and being chapter president of Alpha Gamma Delta.
How do you plan on changing the world?
I plan on changing the world by teaching at home and serving as a bridge between the white and Hispanic communities in my hometown as a bilingual educator.
What advice do you have for incoming students?
Get involved in organizations, especially MerServe. MerServe is an amazing organization that helped me feel like I was making an impact in the Mercer community. I served on the general board of MerServe, and it truly made my Mercer experience.
