Mikayla Alves, a 2022 graduate of Mercer University‘s School of Engineering, earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in electrical engineering.

What are your plans after graduation?

I have received the Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship from the U.S. Department of Defense, and I will be attending graduate school at Georgia Tech.

Who was your favorite professor and why?

Dr. Melinda Hollingshed. I worked with her on research and took some of her classes. I learned a lot, and she has served as a mentor for me throughout my time at Mercer

What is one of your favorite Mercer memories?

Bearstock 2022! The Smino concert was amazing. The food trucks were great, and it was nice spending time with friends at my last Bearstock!

What advice do you have for incoming students?

Ask yourself: Who would you be if you weren’t afraid? Don’t be afraid to take risks!

What makes Mercer special to you?

The people! Everyone is so special, and the connections you make last for a lifetime.
