Millie Smith, a 2021 graduate of Mercer University‘s School of Medicine, earned a Doctor of Medicine degree.

What are your plans after graduation?

Moving to Greenville, North Carolina, to complete residency in combined internal medicine and pediatrics at Vidant Medical Center/East Carolina University.

How do you plan on changing the world?

As a Nathan Deal Scholar, my hope is to come back home to Georgia and practice medicine in a rural clinic that needs me! I can’t wait to give back to the people that helped me learn medicine and be a part of their care.

What advice do you have for incoming students?

Don’t panic! Take medical school one day at a time. There are so many people that have your back and want you to succeed. You are here for a reason!

How did Mercer prepare you for your future?

Mercer’s School of Medicine and its unique curriculum help you think for yourself and become a better doctor because of it. We are pushed past the books to learn the deeper parts of practicing medicine.

What makes Mercer special to you?

I am a Double Bear, and there were just as many amazing people cheering me on in medical school in Savannah as there were when I first started college in Macon!
