Samuel Pulapakuri graduated from Mercer University’s School of Business with a Master of Science in Business Analytics.

What are your plans after graduation?

Following graduation, I plan to launch my career in the analytics field. I am particularly interested in roles that allow me to translate complex datasets into actionable business strategies, with a focus on industries like automotive or aviation where data-driven decision-making is evolving rapidly.

Who was your favorite professor and why?

Dr. Reza Maihami has been my favorite professor. I truly enjoyed learning from him. Beyond his deep expertise in analytics, he is incredibly dedicated to his students’ success. He consistently encouraged us to think critically and provided invaluable guidance that helped me sharpen my technical skills as I prepared to transition into the professional world.

What is one of your favorite Mercer memories?

One of my favorite memories has been working as a graduate assistant at the Sheffield Gym. It gave me a unique perspective on the Mercer community outside of the classroom. Being able to balance my studies and connecting with Sheffield members, students and staff at the gym every day made my time at Mercer feel like being part of a true family.

What was your favorite class and why?

My favorite class was data-driven decision making, which was also taught by Dr. Maihami. It was a standout experience because Dr. Maihami has a way of making complex quantitative concepts feel intuitive and highly applicable to the real world. The course challenged me to move beyond just “crunching numbers” and instead focus on how those numbers can be used to drive high-level business strategy.

How do you plan on changing the world?

I plan on changing the world by promoting the ethical and transparent use of data. In an era where information is everywhere, I want to ensure that analytics are used to empower people and help organizations make decisions that are not only profitable but also socially responsible and equitable.

What advice do you have for incoming students?

My biggest piece of advice is to build relationships early, whether it’s connecting with professors or getting involved with campus life. The connections you make here often turn into the mentorships and opportunities that define your career.

How did Mercer prepare you for your future?

Mercer prepared me by providing a perfect balance of rigorous technical training and real-world application. Between the advanced analytics curriculum at the Stetson-Hatcher School of Business and the professional responsibility of managing social media metrics for Rec Sports, I’ve gained the confidence to handle complex data and lead strategic initiatives from day one.

What makes Mercer special to you?

Mercer is special because of the doors it opens and the confidence it builds. It provided me with a space to grow from a student into a professional analyst, surrounded by people who pushed me to think bigger. The combination of a beautiful campus, rigorous academics and a supportive network makes Mercer a place I’ll always be proud to call home. Go Bears!
