Inaugural Physical Therapy Graduates Surpass State, National Averages on Licensure Examination


ATLANTA – The inaugural graduating class of Mercer University's Doctor of Physical Therapy program earned a 96.3 percent first-time pass rate on the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE), surpassing both statewide and national averages. The NPTE is the licensure examination to practice

The state average of first-time test-takers was 92 percent, while the national average was 90.9 percent. Moreover, three Mercer Physical Therapy graduates received perfect scaled scores of 800/800.

“We are so proud of the first graduates of our program,” said Dr. Leslie Taylor, chair and program director of the Department of Physical Therapy. “They worked tirelessly for three years as our program was still evolving, and we congratulate them on this accomplishment.”

The exceptional first-time pass rate is yet another indication of the outstanding education provided in the Physical Therapy program, which became operational in 2010 and graduated its first class in May. In April, the program was awarded full accreditation status by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education.

“I congratulate Dr. Taylor, the PT faculty, students and staff for their commitment to excellence,” said Dr. Lisa Lundquist, interim dean of the College of Health Professions, where the Physical Therapy program is housed.

“Under her leadership, this program continues to make us all proud to be part of the Mercer University community.”
