Runners and walkers of all ages are welcome to participate, and children and pets are encouraged to join the event. Registration is $25 per runner, or $35 for registration that includes a T-shirt. Walk-up registration will be available on race day. Register for the Lauren Giddings 5K here.
In the event of inclement weather, organizers will implement a backup plan to ensure the event can proceed.
Organized annually by the Association of Women Law Students, the Lauren Giddings 5K is a meaningful tradition within the Mercer Law community. Proceeds from the event provide scholarships to third-year AWLS students preparing to take the bar exam, while honoring the memory and legacy of 2011 Mercer Law graduate Lauren Giddings.
“This annual event allows us to honor Lauren Giddings’ commitment to building community and empowering others to use their talents in the service of others,” said Dean Karen J. Sneddon, J.D. “The recipients of the scholarships will carry forward that commitment.”
Race Chair Colleen Closson, LAW ’28, said, “My co-chair Lucy Long and I look forward to bringing Mercer Law together in October to honor Lauren’s memory. It is a privilege to be part of this tradition that remembers Lauren’s legacy within the legal community.”
Giddings was a dedicated member of AWLS who passed away just days before she was scheduled to take the bar exam in 2011. During her time at Mercer Law, Giddings was deeply involved in the law school community and was particularly committed to serving others through her work with the public defender clinic. She is remembered for her kindness, generosity and unwavering dedication to helping those in need. Beyond the classroom, Giddings embraced life with enthusiasm. She loved music; football; her beloved dog, Butterbean; and running.
