MACON – Mercer University's Student Government Association (SGA) and Information Technology (IT) staff recently partnered with Dub Labs LLC to launch Mercer Mobile, a free mobile application that allows users to access information and interact with the University on the go.

Mercer Mobile – now available for iOS and Android web-enabled phones or devices – provides easy access to a University calendar, news, social media accounts, campus alerts, emergency numbers, course schedules, online purchasing of tickets for athletics and arts events, as well as Macon's community calendar Ovations 365, and more, eliminating the need to navigate multiple websites to find this information.

“There is excitement buzzing around the app's release and all its benefits,” said SGA President Joey Wozniak. “It will help our university better connect to our technology-driven students and community.”

“Working with SGA to create this mobile application has been a striking reminder of the ventures a team with vastly different backgrounds and skills can create when working together,” said Senior Web Designer Beth Hyde. “Even beyond accessing course information, figuring out where the new rain garden is, and loading money on their Bear Card, I hope that students will embrace and enjoy the myriad of tools available within Mercer Mobile. From aesthetics to available features, our team took our marks from the Mercer and Macon communities, and we look forward to their input to continue making it better with each version.”

Prior to the development of the app, SGA formed a committee, led by Senior Class President Melina Hettiaratchi, to search for an app development company. This committee will now turn its attention to the app's analytics to gauge user response.

Dub Labs, a Virginia-based company formed in 2008, was identified by the SGA committee for its success in helping higher education institutions and K-12 schools and school districts go mobile with apps developed for multiple operating systems and the mobile web. Over 170 institutions have gone mobile with the help of Dub Labs to improve communication as well as engage and connect with students, prospective students, alumni, faculty, staff and parents.
