Mercer President Dr. Penny L. Elkins is looking forward to the future of the University.

“Mercer University is the most uniquely impactful private research university in the world,” she said at a news conference on Jan. 5. “And at the heart of my presidency are three commitments that will honor and provide evidence to why I can say that with such confidence.”

Those commitments, she said, are to:

  • Expand and enlarge impact for Mercer students
  • Expand Mercer’s academic enterprise
  • Clearly and authentically tell Mercer’s story

Students, faculty and staff are invited to weigh in on these commitments over the coming weeks through an online University-wide survey and in-person and virtual Future Forward Forums that will center on forward-focused conversations about Mercer’s next chapter.

“It is incredibly important to me that I will listen first, and I will listen well, and then we will in fact align strategic priorities around these three commitments,” Dr. Elkins said.

Future Forward Forums with the president are scheduled for:

  • 3:30 p.m. Jan. 13, Trustees Dining Room, Atlanta Campus
  • 12:15 p.m. Jan. 14, Columbus Campus
  • 3:30 p.m. Jan. 15, Presidents Dining Room, Macon Campus
  • 12:15 p.m. Jan. 27, Savannah Campus
  • 7 p.m. Jan. 28, Virtual (Zoom) for Henry and Douglas County Regional Academic Centers and for others who cannot attend an in-person forum

Members of the Mercer community are encouraged to complete the brief survey by Jan. 12, ahead of the forum dates.

“We want the feedback from all of you in the Mercer community,” Dr. Elkins said.
