MACON, Ga. — Mercer University Interim Senior Vice President for Enrollment Management Dr. Maria Hammett has promoted Emmilee Mitchell, director of student financial planning operations, to interim associate vice president for financial planning, effective immediately.
“Emmilee has demonstrated great leadership with her peers in Financial Planning and across the University, and she brings invaluable data skills that help us make smarter decisions and move work forward with clarity and confidence,” Dr. Hammett said. “We’re fortunate to have her stepping into this responsibility, and I can’t wait to see the impact she will make.”
Mitchell has been at Mercer since 2004 and held positions in Human Resources, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office, the Registrar’s Office and the Academic Resource Centers before joining Student Financial Planning in 2013, eventually being named director of student financial planning operations and compliance in 2014.
She holds the FAAC® designation, which is awarded through the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators Certified Financial Aid Administrator® Program. The designation affirms the individual possesses foundational knowledge necessary to effectively administer Title IV federal student aid programs at colleges and universities across the country as a financial aid professional. For the 2024-25 academic year, Mitchell served as president of the Georgia Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, a statewide professional organization that includes 650 individuals from more than 120 institutions.
“I am deeply grateful for the strong leadership examples set by Dr. Maria Hammett and President Elkins,” said Mitchell. “Their leadership has created a solid foundation that will guide me as I transition into this position. I’m excited for the opportunity to lead the student financial planning team and to continue serving our students and the University community. I look forward to strengthening collaboration with my colleagues across campuses as we work together to support student success.”
