Dr. Gordon Johnston, professor of creative writing and English literature at Mercer University, discovered his love for kayaking when he was young. Since then, he’s kayaked all over Georgia and parts of Florida.
The river inspires Dr. Johnston’s creative writing, and his first collection of poetry, “Scaring the Bears,” includes poems about hiking along and paddling Georgia rivers.
Learn more about Dr. Johnston and his river travels in the latest video in our “Beyond the Bear” series.
Beyond the Bear is a video series in which we talk to Mercer faculty and staff about their passions, hobbies and interests outside of work.
