MACON – Mercer Theatre will present the 2008 Pulitzer Prize-winning play “August: Osage County” at Tattnall Square Center for the Arts March 30-April 2 and April 6-9. The dysfunctional family drama is for mature audiences only and contains adult content and language.
General admission tickets are $15, and $10 with a Mercer I.D. Advance purchase is recommended, but tickets will also be available at the door. To purchase tickets, visit tickets.mercer.edu.
Tattnall Square Center for the Arts is located at 1096 College St. in Macon.
“August: Osage County” tells the tale of the Weston family, who reunites after Dad disappears. A play that unflinchingly, and uproariously, exposes the dark side of the American family – three sisters harbor shady secrets, and the pill-popping acidic matriarch creates a maelstrom of emotions on their Oklahoma homestead.
“This Mercer production tackles one of modern drama's true masterpieces. Among our ensemble are professional local actors, faculty, staff, students and alumni,” said Scot Mann, director of Mercer Theatre.
Bursting with humor, vivacity and intelligence, “August: Osage County” is both complicated and funny. “This is not a play to be produced lightly,” said Mann. “We hope you'll join us in celebrating this truly amazing work that now defines the modern American drama.”
Performance times include March 30-April 1 and April 6-8 at 7:30 p.m. Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m. are available April 2 and April 9.
About Tattnall Square Center for the Arts
The Center opened this spring and serves as a community theatre and arts venue, as well as home to the University's Theatre Department. What was once a historic church that stood sentry for more than 100 years is now a carefully renovated multi-purpose arts space. Sunday School classrooms have been transformed into state-of-the-art teaching studios, a scene shop with a two-story loft, costume shop and storage and faculty offices.
