MACON – Mercer University will welcome Pierce College Professor of Art History Dr. Constance J. Moffatt to deliver the third biennial Frances Sewell Plunkett Lecture Series in the Decorative Arts, Feb. 22-23, on the Macon campus.
The series, titled “Courtly Arts in Renaissance Milan,” begins with “Small to Large: Fabricating Rulership in Renaissance Milan” on Wednesday at 7 p.m., and continues with “Marking Territory: Arms, Emblems, Devices, Imprese, Maps” on Thursday at 11 a.m., and “Going to Bed in the Renaissance (it's not what you think)” on Thursday at 7 p.m.
All lectures are free and open to the public and will be held in Connell Student Center Conference Room II.
Prior to joining the faculty of Pierce College in Los Angeles, California, Dr. Moffatt earned her doctorate from UCLA, where she studied under famed Italian art historian Carlo Pedretti. Dr. Moffatt's research interests include the Sforza patronage and Leonardo da Vinci.
A two-time National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Fellow, Dr. Moffatt has studied in Switzerland and Italy, including a year at the Università degli Studi in Florence, Italy.
She is co-editor-in-chief of the book series Leonardo Studies, which released its first volume, Illuminating Leonardo: A Festschrift for Carlo Pedretti Celebrating His 70 Years of Scholarship (1944-2014), last year.
Dr. Moffatt is active in the Renaissance Society of America and president of Art Historians of Southern California. Her body of work includes a number of research awards, teaching appointments, curated exhibits publications and presentations, both in the U.S. and abroad.
The Frances Sewell Plunkett Lecture Series, held biennially since 2013, is organized by the Art Department in the College of Liberal Arts and funded by an endowment from the Plunkett Family in memory of Frances Sewell Plunkett, who had a strong interest in the decorative arts.
