MACON – The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) recently approved the establishment of a student chapter at Mercer University.

The student group operated as “Bearly Civil Engineers” for a year and successfully met all the requirements set by the Society.

The leadership team included civil and environmental engineering students Ariel Dornisch, recipient of the 2019 Georgia Society of Professional Engineers Student of the Year Award, as well as Hannah Perry, Charlotte Dungan, Caroline Bowers, Kelsea Southwick and Jelena Lee.

“The Mercer University ASCE Student Chapter will provide our students with unique opportunities for networking, mentoring and participating in ASCE competitions and conferences, collaborating with other student chapters, serving the community, and advancing the profession,” said Dr. Kleio Avrithi, assistant professor of civil engineering and faculty advisor of the new chapter.

Dr. Steven McCutcheon, Chloe Enix and Raj Anand served as practitioner advisers for the group.
