MACON – Kicking off Mercer University’s 2002-2003 Executive Forum speaker series is economist Todd Buchholz, co-founder and managing director of Enso Capital Management. Buchholz correctly forecasted the 2001 slowdown in the U.S. economy through his editorials in the Wall Street Journal and warned of the quicksand facing the stock market in his book, Market Shock. He will give a dinner presentation titled “Is the Economy Headed Higher – or Off a Cliff?” at 6:30 p.m., Sept. 24, in the Religious Life Center on Mercer’s Macon campus.

A former Harvard University award-winning economics professor, Buchholz targets his engaging remarks to the cutting edge of economics, finance and business strategy. Named as one of the “21 Top Speakers for the Twentieth Century” by Successful Meetings Magazine, Buchholz is the former managing director of the Tiger Hedge Fund and former director of economic policy at the White House, where he advised President George H. Bush from 1989-1992. He is a regular commentator on ABC News, PBS’ “Nightly Business Report” and often appears on CBS, CNN and CNBC.

Buchholz is the author of numerous books that have been translated into a dozen languages and are used in universities nationwide. He is the contributing editor at Worth magazine, where he writes the “Global Markets” column. He has written articles for the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, and Reader’s Digest and has been a keynote speaker for groups such as IBM and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. He has also given a lecture at the White House library entitled “Clarity, Honesty and Modesty in Economics.”

Buchholz won the Allyn Young Teaching Prize at Harvard and holds advanced degrees in economics and in law from Cambridge and Harvard.

As Georgia’s premier business enrichment program, the Executive Forum is a membership-based speaker series designed to link the business community to Mercer’s Eugene W. Stetson School of Business and Economics. Established in 1979, the Executive Forum serves as a resource for working professionals in Macon and Atlanta and provides an opportunity for executives to hear from some of the country’s most sought-after speakers, while interacting with other business leaders.

The event is open to Executive Forum members and their guests. Anyone interested in becoming a member can call the Mercer University Office of University Advancement at (478) 301-2715.
