WHERE: All events will be held at Mercer University’s Macon campus,

WHY: This spring marks “TCO at 10,” the 10th anniversary of Mercer’s Technical Communication Department in the School of Engineering. In celebration, the Department and Mercer’s Society for Technical Communication chapter are sponsoring Carliner’s workshop, as well as a banquet for alumni, students and friends. The department is also continuing to build a permanent scholarship in the memory of its founding director of the MS program, Dr. David Leonard.

Carliner’s experience with technical communication includes consulting companies, such as BellSouth, IBM, Microsoft, 3M and UPS. For most of this academic year, he is serving as an academic visitor in the Department of English and Communication at the City University of Hong Kong where he will teach and conduct research. He has authored several books and more than 60 articles, and has also appeared on CNET radio, CNBC and Voice of America. Carliner holds a Ph.D. in instructional technology from Georgia State, a master’s degree in technical communication from the University of Minnesota and a bachelor’s degree in economics, professional writing and public policy from Carnegie Mellon University.
