Enjoy Friday the 13th at Mercer Madness

Mercer Madness, the annual kick-off of men’s and women’s basketball for the upcoming season, will be held this year on Friday, Oct. 13, at the University Center. This year’s event, sponsored by QuadWorks and Mercer Athletics, will feature a volleball game with the Bears hosting Savannah State.
The volleyball game will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by a spirit contest competition featuring Mercer Maniacs.
At 8 p.m., the dance team and cheerleaders will lead those in attendance into the promotional activities of Mercer Madness.
The women’s basketball team, under the direction of interim head coach Sybil Blalock, will scrimmage at 8:45 p.m. followed by the finals of a women’s 3-on-3 competition.
It will be the men’s team’s turn to scrimmage at 9:15 p.m. Coach Mark Slonaker will begin his 10th season at the helm of the Bears.
The men’s 3-on-3 finals will follow at 9:30 p.m.
Beginning at 9:45 p.m., winners will be announced in the spirit competition and team ball competitions — involving members of the men’s and women’s teams paired by classes — will close the indoor portion of the event.
From there, those in attendance will move outside the UC for the giant fireworks show.
The Mercer women begin their season on Friday, Nov. 10, at Georgia Tech, while the men open on Sunday, Nov. 12, at the University of Wisconsin.
