Flag-Raisings of Three Institutions Commemorate 25th Anniversary for Mercer School of Medicine

296

WHO:  Mercer University, The Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon, and Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.

WHAT:  The Mercer community will welcome representatives from The Medical Center of Central Georgia, Macon, and Memorial Health University Medical Center, Savannah, to raise the flag of each institution in observance of the 25th anniversary of the Mercer School of Medicine.

WHEN:  1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5

WHERE:  In front of the Mercer School of Medicine on the Macon campus

WHY:  The Mercer School of Medicine is commemorating its 25th year of preparing physicians to meet the health care needs of Georgia. Instead of developing a separate teaching hospital, Mercer has had clinical relationships for many years with the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon and Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. These relationships have enabled Macon and Savannah to become major hubs of health care services in Georgia. Mercer is the only medical program in the state that admitted only residents of Georgia into its Doctor of Medicine program. That requirement has resulted in a large portion of Mercer educated physicians to practice medicine in the state.
