ATLANTA – Fourteen national and regional authors, including best-selling and award-winning Southern writers Steve Berry, Terry Kay, Hank Klibanoff and Ferrol Sams, will be featured at the 18th annual Mercer University Press Authors Luncheon. Scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Intercontinental Buckhead Atlanta hotel, the event begins at 10:30 a.m. with a reception and book signing, followed by lunch and speakers at noon.
A special tribute will be given to the legacy of the late Tom Watson Brown, prominent Atlanta attorney, philanthropist and Civil War historian and scholar, who served 28 years as chairman of the Mercer University Press Board of Directors and was a Life Trustee of Mercer University.
The luncheon benefits Mercer University Press. Mercer alumnus and King & Spalding attorney Richard A. “Doc” Schneider will serve as the master of ceremonies. Jimmy and Annie Faye Gardner of Alpharetta are co-chairs of the Host Committee. For those attending from the Macon area, complimentary bus service to and from Atlanta will be available. Speaking at the luncheon will be Steve Berry, a lawyer and author of six historic thrillers, including his latest novel, “The Alexandria Link,” and his next title, “The Venetian Betrayal,” (Ballantine Books) scheduled for release mid-December; Terry Kay, a 2006 inductee into the Georgia Writers Hall of Fame, screenwriter and author of nine published novels, his newest being “The Book of Marie” (Mercer University Press); Hank Klibanoff, the managing editor of news for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and co-author of 2007 Pulitzer Prize-winning book in history, “The Race Beat: The Press, the Civil Rights Struggle and the Awakening of a Nation” (Vintage); and Ferrol Sams, M.D., a Fayetteville physician, humorist and author of eight books, including this year’s release, Down Town (Mercer University Press).
