MACON – The national tour of “The Wizard of Oz” — touching down in Macon in March 2011 — is sounding the alarm and calling for 12 children from the area to perform the roles of “munchkins.” The auditions will take place at the Academy of the Performing Arts on Saturday, Oct 2. Eight and 9-year-olds audition at10 a.m. and 10 to 12-year-olds audition at 2 p.m.

The Academy of the Performing Arts is located at 3378 Brookdale Ave, Suite 1, Macon. Children should be prepared to sing 16 bars of a Broadway Show tune, bring sheet music and dress for a dance audition. Children need to be under 4-feet 8-inches tall and weigh less than 100 pounds. For more information call (478) 476-1910 or email info@academyoftheperformingarts.com.

“The Wizard of Oz” is looking for a group of 12 skilled dancers and singers engaged in an ongoing study of acting, music and/or dance to perform timeless classics such as “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead,” and help bring this national treasure to the Macon stage.

This opportunity will provide the children with real-life theatre experience. They will discover what it’s like to be part of a professional company, learn choreography by Leigh Constantine and be outfitted in the costume designs of Tim McQuillen-Wright.  It’s truly a unique experience and incredible opportunity for aspiring actors and actresses to follow their yellow brick road!
