Can you believe it’s already November? Macon has started to get a winter chill in the air, and everyone’s calendars are booking up fast. As we approach the end of the year, there are a few events you don’t want to miss in Macon.

Holiday light shows

You don’t have to travel far to see two great light displays in Macon. The annual Light More Homes display, which benefits Macon Area Habitat for Humanity, on the Mercer campus will be unveiled during a program open to the community at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 16. The lights start in Mercer Village and stretch all the way down Stadium Drive. Enjoy the show from 6-10 p.m. nightly through Jan. 6. In addition, students, faculty, staff and their families are invited to a Winter Wonderland event with winter and holiday-themed activities in Mercer Village at 7 p.m. Dec. 7.

Just a few miles down the road, downtown Macon will also be aglow. For the past six years, the city center has been transformed into a Christmas light paradise through the Macon Christmas Light Extravaganza. Take a stroll through five blocks of lights synced to the music of the Macon Pops nightly from 6-10 p.m. Nov. 24-Jan. 3. The light show will kick off at 6 p.m. Nov. 24 with a free live concert from Macon Pops.

Shop Small Saturday

On Nov. 25, patrons are encouraged to shop local and support downtown businesses. This day is coined as Shop Small Saturday, and downtown Macon is the perfect place to celebrate. Join us for “Shopping Power Hours” from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Each hour, several businesses will offer mega discounts for just that hour. Discounts will continue all day, so you can support all of the businesses downtown.

Selfies with Santa

During the Macon Christmas Light Extravaganza, you will find special programs like hot cocoa sales, custom Christmas ornaments and more, but a family favorite is Selfies with Santa. During this event, Santa will visit Poplar Street Park and take photos in his sled with all who visit. Santa will be available 6-10 p.m. Dec. 1-3, Dec. 8-10, Dec. 15-17 and Dec. 22-24. Dec. 16 will be an extra special night of Selfies with Santa, as he brings along some of his magical reindeer. Photos and visits with Santa are free and open to the public. Make sure to use #downtownmacon in your posts from the event.

Donate S’more Love

On Dec. 1, you are invited to celebrate December’s First Friday in downtown Macon. During this event, NewTown Macon will have s’mores roasting stations set up in Third Street Park. Stop by and enjoy a delicious treat while shopping and dining with local businesses. NewTown will also be collecting donations of new cold weather necessities for the Brookdale Resource Center, a transitional housing and resource center. For a full list of needed items, follow NewTown Macon on Facebook and Instagram.

Christmas in Downtown

From 2-6 p.m. Dec. 9, Macon will be a wonderland during downtown’s only Christmas festival. Enjoy a “snow” pit, ornament making, elfie selfies, local musical performances and more family-friendly fun! Start the day at the event headquarters in Cotton Avenue Plaza, where you’ll find event maps and more information.
