On Friday, March 13, the Association of Women Law Students hosted the 17th Annual Charity Auction and Ball at the Cox Capital Theatre in downtown Macon. They raised over $10,000 to benefit Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia, a local charity. In the past four years, they have raised over $60,000 to support local charities.

Items offered in the live auction by auctioneer and alum, Ivy Cadle, included a singing telegram from Bar Notes Acapella, dinner with professors and the opportunity to play in a tennis tournament against Professors Creswell, Roudil, Feinberg, and Griffin. Professor Terri McMurtry-Chubb and her husband, award-winning composer Mark Anthony Chubb, offered a theme song to be composed for the highest bidder. Several bar prep courses were also offered for auction. Various donations from local businesses were bundled into themed baskets for the silent auction.

This year's Auction Chair and second-year law student, Lee Ann Hughes, said,”We are beyond excited to donate over $10,000 to such a deserving, wonderful local non-profit organization.AWLS has been incredibly fortunate to have built a strong relationship with the Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia, and I am sure that our Members, as well as our Executive Board, have been touched by the leadership and values of the Rescue Mission. Our organization's Annual Charity Auction reminds law students of the importance of giving back to our local, Macon community.”

Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia provides services to the community through two divisions; a Men's Division offers help for homelessness and addiction recovery, and a Women's Division provides a safe space for women and children suffering from abuse. Both programs focus on teaching participants self-sustainability. Rescue Mission also engages in community outreach and providing daily meals for the homeless.
